Hatton’s Lounge

This new hotel restaurant at Karen Blixen Coffee Gardens in the Karen area of Nairobi has many unique features. The roof structure, all made with sustainable wood, is built using laminated beams and purlins to create a vaulted ceiling. The walls are made from local stone in a zero joint pattern, so each piece of finished stone is unique. The centerpiece of the restaurant is a blue stone fireplace, nearly 2 meters in height, and cut by hand from massive pieces of stone specially ordered from the stone quarry. The restaurant floor is made a mix of mazeras stone and a cream colored travertine. Lanterns from Morocco illuminate the restaurant at night with warm light LED bulbs. The commercial kitchen serving the restaurant is made from stainless steel to a Western standard.
